Adorned

The Workshop

Friday 14th June

9am-12pm

Currumbin
(exact location upon booking)

$30.00
($25 for ticket holders)

Immerse your mind and heart in the enquiry of what it means to adorn in the current world. Using dance and movement-based exploration, we will unpack the historic devolution of our relationship to object, searching to reserect it in a modernised yet sacred connection. This workshop accompanies our dance performance work ‘Adorned’ by Sunshine Coast-based dance company, kin, held at Dust Temple the evening before (Thursday 13th). This very somatic, curious and inquisitive workshop will be a tasting platter of contemporary dance-based technique, composition and choreographic tools, cultivation of deep creativity, and exploration with clay, paint and the props used in the performance work.  All abilities and skill levels are warmly welcome. Please let us know if we can support any unique requirements.

BERSERK

Volunteers

BERSERK is a dance theatre performance that explores the somatic experience of trance and mythology. Set in a brutalist monolithic landscape, this immersive production follows shapeshifters through threshold experiences, shedding and vibrating in sync with present creative forces. The performance weaves together elements of absurdity and sincerity, encouraging viewers to embrace animism and discover freedom through movement. The Old Ambulance Station's Gallery Space will be transformed into a dynamic, otherworldly realm, with volunteers playing a crucial role in bringing this unique and thought-provoking artistic experience to life.

BERSERK is a community oriented project, and we need you to help bring the show to life! You can sign up to perform and/or help to design and create the set. No performance experience is required. We are looking for people of all ages, looks, genders, sizes, skills and physical abilities.

You will be working alongside the core ensemble of dancers/actors in the creative process to help shape the outcome of the work. Throughout the entire project, director Jag Popham will be leading you though each task and you will witness and experience how a production of this scale comes together, from the first warm-up to the final bow.

SIGN UP here!

You will:

  • Attend several rehearsal days throughout the month of March to create/learn choreography, and then perform on the 23rd March as part of the ensemble.

  • Have the option to join the core company of dancers for OPEN warm up class (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, and show-day)

  • Be able to attend the BERSERK workshop on the 10th March, 10-12pm at the Gallery Space at the Old Ambulance Station, for FREE

ADORNED
creative development, Jan 2024

In January, co-founder, Bella Hood and freelance movement artist, Asher Bowen-Saunders joined forces, and spent 1 week in creative development to further deepen the movement language of Adorned.

Adorned is a fusion of contemporary dance and visual art that delves into the intricate interplay between the self as both an object and a vital force, placing a spotlight on the profound impact of choices at both local and global levels.

In the current era, where the boundaries between material and spiritual existence blur, Asher and Bella are interested in challenging conventional notions of identity, empowering individuals to actively shape their engagement with both inner and external worlds.

We explore the complex relationships intertwined with human desire, materialism, consumerism, and greed. Simultaneously, we seek to revive the lost art of adornment and foster a reconnection with the spirit of objects and nature. At the core, we strive to emphasise the act of generating and creating, advocating for a cultural shift from consumption to conscious creativity and connection.

We invite Sunshine Coast based artists, Chloe Watego (visual artist) and Tess Miller (Ceramicist), to join us in the process of creating live performance, bringing into the mix ochre paints, and clay— to celebrate the body's creative expression over material consumption.

Stay tuned for news of the premiere of Adorned, coming in May, 2024.
